It’s not hard to find a lake to recreate on in Vilas County. With more than 1,300 lakes it’s a sure bet you will find one to suit your home or vacation needs.

St. Germain has many wonderful lakes. One of the most popular is Big St. Germain Lake.

This large lake is found to the west of Highway 155, to the north of Highway 70 and to the east of Highway C and is on the south side of Big St. Germain Lake Rd. The lake is 1,617 acres and is 42 feet at its deepest point. The average depth is 21 feet.

A favorite among anglers, there are Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Muskie, Bluegill, Crappie, Northern Pike and Walleye in the lake. There is one state-owned public boat ramp which is off Big St. Germain Lake Rd and is on the north eastern end of the lake. This is a ramp boat launch with one paved launch lane.  Water depth is usually deeper than three feet. There are five parking stalls and also can accommodate up to 15 vehicles with trailers. There is no fish cleaning station.

There are several resorts on the lake, Twin Waters Resort, St. Germain Lodge / Fibber’s Restaurant, Fath’s Big Woods Resort & their North Shore Rentals at Clearview Lodge, Deer Run Resort, Leisure Lodge Resort, Lofty Pines RV Resort, Lynn Anne’s Campground and Sunrise Shores Campground.

On-water dining options include Fibber’s Restaurant and Clearview Supper Club. Just a short drive from the lake you will find McGregor’s Blink Bonnie, Sisters Saloon, Whitetail Inn, and the 19th Hole.

Of course there is plenty of boating, water skiing, personal watercraft, canoeing and kayaking opportunities on this big lake. During winter ice fishing is great and there are snowmobile trails marked on the lake.

Whatever the season, Big St. Germain Lake is the perfect location for your seasonal or permanent home.
