Three Lakes Chain of Lakes

Southern Portion - Above Dam

To the south of the lakes of the Eagle River Chain is the Three Lakes Chain of Lakes. The Three Lakes Chain is situated East of Highway 45 and North of Highway 8 and the popular small town of Three Lakes is located along the chain's shoreline. This is known as the upper end of the chain due to the higher water level above the dam.

It connects to the Eagle River chain at the Burnt Rollaway Boat Hoist. The hoist is operated by the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company and operates from Memorial weekend until the last weekend in September. For specific hours visit the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company website.

Primary species of fish found here include: Muskie (rated A2 - Action Waters), Walleye, Northern Pike, Crappie and Perch. Also found are Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Bluegills, and Rock Bass.

Most of the 20 lakes in the Three Lakes Chain are fairly uniform in size.  The largest lake is Planting Ground Lake at 1012 acres and is 37 feet at its deepest. Again, from the luxurious Northernaire Resort to camping opportunities in the Chequamegon/Nicolet State Forest, there is a huge variety of vacation locations. Marinas, restaurants, and access to town shopping make for endless choices for boating adventures.
